Named “The toughest race in the most beautiful place,” the June Lake Triathlon, held at 7,600 feet above sea level, lives up to its name. The race is conducted every July at the incredibly scenic June Lake and has been listed as one of the nation’s top 22 races. It is hard to imagine that there is another triathlon where you swim in a crystal clear alpine lake, bike around a well-paved lake loop, and run through a forest with spectacular mountain views. The triathlon has also been recognized in Triathlete, LAVA, and USA Triathlon Magazine as editor and reader’s pick.
Concerned that the event might be too challenging? The June Lake Triathlon has an option for every fitness, ability, and age level! There is a long course half ironman, long course aquabike, Olympic distance, sprint distance, and kids mini tri distance. If racing just isn’t your thing come out and watch the festivities from the sandy June Lake Beach! Looking to improve your technique and fitness before the race? Check out the High Sierra Tri Club. The club offers structured group workouts and opportunities to meet training partners in an accepting atmosphere focused on the enjoyment of the sport. If you’ve been searching for another epic triathlon experience look no further than the Granite Man Challenge. The challenge consists of three different High Sierra races held September 11-13th. The first is the 2.4-mile swim, with a 1-mile option, Granite-to-Granite Swim in June Lake. The Second is the Mammoth Gran Fondo, a 102-mile road race. The last of the races is the Tioga Pass Run, which consists of one 12.4-mile hill with 3,200 feet of elevation gain. You must complete all three races in order to be name a Granite Man! Despite the extreme difficulty of this challenge, each event is held in the magnificent Eastern Sierra, which promises incredible views at every turn.
