But I was running errands yesterday and I drove by an empty lot in the heart of Mammoth and noticed some construction. At first glance it appeared to be a gas station going in, but after further investigation it appears I stumbled onto Tesla’s 5th Mammoth charging station.
This location is right off Old Mammoth Road across from the Chart House and next to the Sierra Manors condominium complex. Kind of an odd location for a charging station, but without being too familiar with Tesla’s business model, my guess is that they needed to implement a more public use type location for tesla owners. What I mean by this is that the four above mentioned locations are all high-end hotel properties and the charging stations within them are located in the underground parking garage that is guest/owner use only. Therefore, someone staying at the Quality Inn for example, or renting a private condo off VRBO, would not be able to access the private garage stalls that have the current charging station locations.
To my understanding a full charge only needs about 30 minutes; the ideal amount of time to go grab a quick bite to eat. So, if I may, here a few nearby suggestions for quick etas that you can walk to in minutes from this location:
- Nik N Willies (sandwiches and pizza)
- Z Pizza (pizza, salads, slices)
- Good Life Café (a little of everything!)
- Latin Market Taqueria (tacos, tortas, burritos)
So hats off to Tesla for thinking outside the box and bringing new technology to the four wheeled world of today’s modern transportation. Now if they could only make a model that I could afford. J What I always appreciated about the Tesla Motors company is that they built a product that has proven to be versatile in so many countries and environments and has maintained the necessary infrastructure to not only be successful, but continue their growth. I’ve never come across a dissatisfied Tesla owner; have you?
